Mathematics has a long history since ancient Greece, and is still developing right now. Mathematics has the theoretical system that consists of two aspects. One is the “pure mathematics” which has been motivated by people’s curiosities to mathematical problems themselves. The other aspect is “foundation” or “language” of all sciences.
In the modern society based on advanced science and technologies, people who have talents such as mathematical insights and logical thinking are wanted not only by educational/research institutes but also by many companies/organs.

Physics is academic activities of understanding the fundamental laws of the nature. It has been developed dramatically, in particular, in 20th century, and many structures and mechanisms of the nature have been unraveled. The obtained results of physics have been applied to the development of technologies, and physics has contributed to the modern civilization so much.
In 21st century, physics will play a pioneering role in science and technology such as discovery of new materials, development of communication system and information processing devises, and space exploration.

We have accumulated knowledge on materials and technology that handles materials. The knowledge and the technology have been structured the science called chemistry, and chemistry is one of the foundations of the modern civilization.
Chemistry is one of the scientific activities that explores the nature. Chemistry is an activity to try to understand materials and their properties within molecular and atomic levels, and it provides an important part of our understanding of the nature.

The research areas of faculty members in Department of Biology consist of three fields. Our faculty members conduct researches within their own field or, in some case, in multiple fields. As a result, many kinds of researches, from molecular level to global ecosystems, are being conducted in Department of Biology.

To solve issues of the earth and global environments, we need to understand interactions between ecosystems and the atmospheric/solid earth in various time-space scales.
To challenge the issues, students study the inner structure of the earth and the mechanism of crustal deformation at Department of Earth Sciences. Department of Earth Sciences offers studying and research opportunities with various viewpoints and methodologies for understanding coevolution of lives and the earth.
